Entrance Exam

For Pharmacy Technician, this process refers to foundational assessments used by individual training programs to evaluate an applicant's readiness. The process typically involves the following:

Common Entrance Assessments

Most vocational schools and community colleges require one of several standardized tests to ensure basic academic proficiency:

  • Math and Literacy Exams: Many programs administer proprietary basic math and grammar tests to ensure students can handle the calculations and terminology required in pharmacy practice.

  • The Wonderlic Exam: Some certificate programs use this cognitive ability test.

  • The ACCUPLACER: Selective programs may require this test to assess Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic skills.

  • Waivers: Schools often waive these exams for applicants who already hold an Associate degree or higher from an accredited U.S. institution.

The Assessment Process

  • Timing: Tests are usually taken as part of the formal application or during an "Interview Day".

  • Attempts: Most institutions allow multiple attempts (typically three) if a student does not meet the minimum score on the first try.

  • Content Focus: Mathematics is the most critical component, focusing on basic algebra, unit conversions, and arithmetic without a calculator.

Essential Pre-Admission Requirements

In addition to or in place of entrance exams, most schools require:

  • High School Diploma or GED: This is a universal prerequisite for entry into any accredited program.

  • Background Check and Fingerprinting: Mandatory to ensure the student is eligible for future state licensure.

  • English Proficiency: For non-native speakers, a TOEFL or IELTS score report is typically required.
